back when i had mine i'd jsut let it roam the house lol...but if fed in a seperate area i really dont see why not
 
try superworms and make sure to feed your crickets carrots and veggies dusted with your calcium powder (gut loading) much more nutrition, pine and juniper oils not good for reptiles , mine once got out the back patio door after a week I found her scratching at the back door tryin to get back in ! she was a little dehydrated and had gotten into a cactus some where but she clearly knew where home was!
 
Hi you water dragon is defenetly on the inicial fases of metabolic bonne desiase. You need to inprove its diet and ligthing asap. What lamp are you using? Change it to a zoomed´s 5.0 uv iguana ligth lamp. and make shure there is nothing between your lizard and the lamp. Next gutload ALL the bugs and dust them all with zoomed´s reptivite. Feed him also earthworms, choped hoppers(mice) and healty guppys. Act NOW or else he will become very deformed and it is inreversible!

Unless it is confined in a specific area like a green house its not a good idea to have your dragon roaming the house and much less with debilitated bonnes, one bad fall and he can fracture a leg or worse, its spine. Also let him roam a house means he will have troble getting into the rigth temp, humity, etc. It may have worked in your case but unless your able to cope with a amount of modifications to a room most people would think your krazy, it is NOT advizable to let a rep roam in a permanent basis. What he needs is a hand made enclosure like the one already showed, the diference I would made its that the front mesh should be made in plastic mesh, much less hard on the lizard snout
