a heat lamp i belive needs a heat bulb, and because they are coldblooded cretures, they need the heat lamp, so you need a new bulb, unless you party bulb puts out big heat, which i doubt it does.

It does heat up the tank fairly good.If the tank feels chilly i turn it on and in 10 mintues its fairly warm.so should i change it even if it does this

I don't have any lizards, but I've got a couple of tropical frogs, and I keep their heat lamp on all the time, as well as the heat pad under the tank. It doesn't seem to me like it would be good for your water dragon if you turn the heat lamp off and on regularly, because the drastic temperature changes might stress the lizard.

So that's what I'd do if I were you, just use a night heat lamp and keep it on all the time. If the one you're using gets warm enough but not too hot for your lizard (thermometers are good things to have), then I don't see why you'd need to replace it until it burns out.

Actually, in most areas of the world, the nighttime temps usually drop, so turning off the heat lamps at night even better simulates a day/night cycle. As long as the night temps don't drop below 65'F, most reptiles should be fine during that period.

However, the UTH can still remain on 24/7.

You should have a UV bulb on that tank also. They NEED UVB/UVA rays. Also need high humidity, and temps around 95 for thier basking temp and around 80-85 for the ambient.

chad is right...
the blue light you have is for only for night time and you wont need it unless your temp gets cold at night

no pic for my bd....cant find lol

Also be weary of the blue "party lamps" I used to use them at night years ago and I had a few of them pop and send pieces of glass into the cage.

Now I use the ceramic heat emitters and a FULL SPECTRUM floutescent bulb. This combo works perfectly at night and during the day!

Well actually, this type of lizard likes the dark. When giving it light like this, make sure its localized so that it can still hide in the shad of leaves or logs. Just because you dont see him under the light doesnt mean you shouldnt have it on 12 hours a day. I like to use lights for lizard heat, pads I stick to snakes. LOL. Your tank should have a heat lamp in one corner that is surounded by plants. I canot stress enouf that this animal likes the dark. Water is a big factor for this animal. Having a log go over the water bowl is a very good way to make this animal feel at home, the bowl should have a small filter in it and the lenght of the lizard should be the minimum lenght of the bowl.
