In the past with my Eheim 2217 I've had the spray bar pointed at the wall so that it flows down the tank but also agitates the surface a little bit. I've had smaller fish that would be blown around if I had it pointed into the tank itself.
But now I have the new type of spray bar that is 3 separate pieces and you can rotate them each individually. I also have larger fish that won't get tossed around. The bichirs seem to enjoy playing on the wall with the spray bar, and I've recently seen

post something in someones thread about the polys liking/being more active when adding a bubbler to a larger tank. So - I'm now wondering if I should change where the flow is pointed so it goes into the tank instead of against the wall.
I will probably still keep one portion of the bar pointed at the side and up a bit to help aerate the surface.
Because I have butterfly fish (and floating plants) I can't point it into the tank AND at the surface.
What do your polys seem to like as far as flow, and how would you suggest that I point the other 2 spray bar sections?
Thanks.
