anyone have any idea's on how to fix cloudy water a few days ago it got almost milk white and now it's cleared up to an off white but it's still really cloudy. any clues or idea's on how to clear it up? the amonia is at .25ppm the nitrites are at 0ppm and ph is an 8.

what you say is unclear. what size tank, fish? filtration, where is the tank located in front of a window?? whats the water chemistry like? a lot of things cause that type of water. the more info you give the better the answer you will recieve!!

the tank is a 25 gallon tank. it's sitting in the corner of my bedroom next to a window but no sun hits the tank. i have three long fin black skirted tetra's, three red wag platy's, two iridescents, a pictus, a silver tip and an algee eater. the water in the tank is a greenish white. the amonina in the water is .25ppm the nitrites in the water are at 0ppm and the ph level is around an 8.

how long has it been setup ???

I agree with johnptc. your ammonia need to be 0. your water may be caused by a bacteria bloom. do you have uneaten food or dead fish in there? Do you have any type of plants in tank? The best thing i found in controling ammonia and nitrite are plants in the tank. Fast growing ones like eel grass are great at soaking up excess nutrients and pollutants like ammonia.

i have plants in the tank. i just find it odd that it all happened like in a day because the water was crystal clear about a week ago.

can you tell me what and how many plants you do have?
Also, what type of filter your are using?
And, i think that your two iredescent, algae eater, and pictus are probably the culprits responsible for your water because all of them will grow up big, especially your iredscents, with your pictus in second, and algae eater in third place for size. I also think they may make snacks out of your platys and tetras.
did you also change your routine like lag in your water changes, or change food perhaps? Either way, watch out for the sizes of the three i mentioned.
