i saw that my water was turning green, decided friday morning to do a water change. i got home from work and it was still green. Yesterday it got worse, turn even more green, so i decide last night to do another water change. I woke up this morning and notice my water was even more green.

my setup is a 40 gallon acrylic with a eheim ecco 2234 canister filter 2 trays of eheim substrate ball and a aquaclear 50 with sponge ceramic circle. with a 200 watt stealth heater and a fusion 600 air pump

the fish tank house my 5 mono's and 2 tem's.

any help is welcome. i need to find the culprit of this green water fish tank

Seams to me its a algee bloom. Is the tank in direct sun light?

Do another water change, then add some aquarium salt, and like the last member said, it could be do to your tank being in direct sunlight.........Good luck

if it keeps turning green because of sunlight then id suggest u get some snails and a UV sterilizer

its not in direct sunlight, but it is under a window. when the sun shines there is no sun on the tank itself.

i have a Coralife Aqualight Dual Linear Strip T5 Aquarium Lighting Fixture, 2X21 Watt, 36 inch on all the time.

will try the salt setup.

lol the only thing that is going to clear that up is a U.V. sterilizer or ALOT of consistent water changes. Most likely the culprit is direct sunlight, your aquarium lights are on too long and you have this combo mixed with high nitrates. Cichla love green water and usually turn really bright but it's ok because you won't be able to see them to enjoy it lol.. I hate algae blooms.

salt won't help... lol t5s on all the time is deff no good.. your basically brewing phytoplankton lol

i suggest leaving the light off for 3 days and closing the blinds.
also i suggest you go over to a day/night schedule regularily, its better for the fish and the longer the light is left on over 10 hours the more likely algae blooms will happen.

you could try commercial algaecide, would probably be the fastest way if it works.

or you could try overdosing florish excel or dosing hydrogen peroxide(if you screw up either of these it could very well kill the fish especially the peroxide.)

Don't add any chemicals to your tank! Algaecides are know to kill fish and I would never add peroxide or any other chemicals to your tank..

You should slack on the lights a bit and just do consistent water changes or a u.v. There is no other solution.
