Ok ive got a baby hybrid motoro comming in tomorrow i have a nitrate problem its at 40ppm my amonia is at 0.25ppm and nitrite is inbetween 0 and 0.25ppm is the nitrate going to be a major issue for the ray? I expect so.. anyway ive done 2 60% water chnages and a 40% water change over the space of 4 days and hasnt changed at all faulty test kits maybe im not sure freakin out abit as ive had the shop allready hold her for the maximum of a week (policy for fish they order in) and i HAVE to pick her up tomorrow tank is 180gallon with 100 gallon sump with a k1 section amd about 5kg of of ceramic media and the rest is scrubbies and bio balls and a refugium section theres 5 peacock bass in there atm all about 8" ray is 4.5" disc any help would be great p.s. im halfway thru the plywood build for the rays future home 8x4x2.5 so ive planned ahead

Nitrate won't be a problem...mine is always off the chart. Ammonia and nitrite is definitely a big problem. Get some seachem stability and make sure you use prime. Do you have other tanks you can borrow filter media out of?

Hey thanks for quick reply i have a large turtle pond and thats it for media i can use some of the filter floss i have in there or the bio balls as its a 55gallom drum filled with it and about 1000 bioballs
Ill pick some prime up tomorrow morning and dose the tank according to instructions before the ray is picked up in the afternoon to try help

Tank has been set up for over a year and half but upgraded the filter about 6 months ago the nitrite is barly got any colour difference from 0ppm to the 0.25ppm so its closer to 0 then it is 0.25ppm

Get a big huge filter. Your way under filtered is you have those readings

allrightio then ill setup another filter for the tank pick up a 55gal barrel fill it with half pond media from turltes ponds and the other half new media to help give it a boost

I also remhomed a 10" oscar in tank this morning to ease the bio load up abit in the hopes that would help the nitrate situation

How long have the bass and oscar been in the current tank? If it's been since setup, I would try different test kits.
What did you have for filtration 6 months ago? Have you tested the parameters before purchasing the Ray?

Its been since setup for 3 of the bass and the oscar amd about 4 months ago added 2 more bass. For filtration previous was just a 40 gallon sump with bio balls and scrubbies
Im bringing a sample of my water into the local fish shop this morning for them to test
I test every 2 weeks my nitrate was sitting at 10ppm last time and amonia was at 0.25ppm like usually is not sure on nitrite though and ph always been 7.2 to match my tap water
