yeah i cover any holes in the canopy with tinfoil to slow evaporation, and also to keep my fish in

i say its evaporation. It's the same thing that's happening to my 20 gal tank. That tank seems to have faster evaporation. All other tanks are not as fast. But like everyone said, you might want to check your filters. I had one that was leaking. I didn't notice it immediately since the water was being absorbed the the curtain behind the tank.

Evaporation for sure! an inch a week is very standard. How warm is your tank? And what kind of thermometer are you using?

i'd say evaporation also, and you should notice more as your heater comes on in the winter.

OK thanks guys. I just never knew that evaporation happened so fast. I thought it was a very slow process like over weeks time.

I do have a lid on it except some areas in the back where i used to have a hob
