This is a response from a hobbyist you can consider a master of fish.

"Most deciduous trees are ok but conifers need to be real old and have all the sap leached out of them."

I'm going to do more research before I jump in head first. I have no idea what deciduous or conifers mean lol

I try to sink most of it or I screw it to slate so it won't float. I also let some float just for the look and they also seem to like hanging off of it.

Chola wood sinks with no issues. So does most mopani.

Deciduous trees are trees and shrubs that lose their leaves annually and conifers are any of the "pine" or evergreen trees.

Any advice whether the wood should dried or fresh and should the bark be removed. We gave our guy some turnip 2 days ago and he likes it.

Turnip is great for them. My new favorite food for mine and it's going to be a regular thing from now on. Very high in calcium and other vitamins and minerals.

I think the deciduous can be fresh the conifers have to be old and dried out completely. Don't use the conifers just to avoid any problems.

I still will not be using any fresh wood until I am 100% sure if what is best.

I was thinking the same thing besides I would'nt want to cut down our evergreens but I think I will try some fresh willow or poplar.
