My fish room
Has anyone kept water monitors on here? If so, what was the growth rate? I am considering getting one. I have plenty of room for its encolsure and have kept varanids since I was 15 (I'm 32 now).

I haven't kept one yet, but I most certainly will get one as soon as I get that option.

I don't want to sound like an ass(But I will) but, if you've got so much experience with Varanids you would know these guys grow fast. Think at least 2-3 feet in the first year.

i m a water monitor keeper lol they very i have had one that hit 4ft the fist year and my other one hit 2ft 1st year but they do start slowing down after awile dont get me wrong they have been known to push 9ft lol its rear but could happen

All mine were about 3ft.-ish after about a year. If you got the space they can be very enjoyable. Word of warning though. I made the mistake of hand feeding my large one a pre-killed rat once and he grabbed my hand along with the rat. Luckily, I had on welders gloves to prevent the lacerations but the violent shaking as he tryed to "kill" his pre-killed rat resulted in some torn ligaments in my shoulder. After some arthroscopic surgery and a few months of recovery all was good again.

I have never kept a water monitor. I have realized from my experience that what one reads in a book does not always translate into real life. That is why I have sought information from those who have kept water monitors.

Thanks for the advice. I have read that they grow really quickly but was not sure if that was accurate.
