How are your sumps? I'm considering doing a 125g. sump on my 270g. tank.

Use a 75G. No need to waste a perfectly good 125.

The bigger the sump the better, more room for media and more importantly volume of water, the more water the more stable the environment.

You also have room to add equipment etc....

i agree put the biggest sump you can fit in the stand for sure. i have a 125gal sump and am very happy with it. i have a reeflo hammer head pump and 3 koralia 4's. i use to have the koralia's on a timer but for the last month i havent turned them on as the hammerhead keeps the bottom clean just fine.

Wow 15x, yikes. I am in the process of building an above ground pong in my garage that will net about 5700 gallons and was planning on a 7200 gph pump for the wet/dry, a 4800gph for the 240w UV and a 1200gph for the Aquatic-Eco fludized bed. If my mat is right, that is still below 3x. Is this not enough?
