Water or hard kok

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking that, it makes sence. I saw one of my flowerhorn x devilhorn fry that looked like he had a lil bump on his head a few weeks back I should have pulled it out as soon as I saw it.

I put one in my male devilhorns tnk and his "swag" lol has went through the roof he was way more passive untill he saw his reflecttion. I removed it because thats all he did was attack it. Now that its gone he wants to fight all the time. this morning when i went to check out everything in the fish room I noticed that his kok is finally developing. The only thing is he has gotten so aggressive my male "thai silk x parrot" that is housed next to him kok went down. I guess my devilhorn punked him through the divider smh. I have seen it done but cant figure out how can people keep several males divided together and all have kok? like said before genes i guess. Another ? is ph a factor? I keep my tanks around 7.0ph. Bummping it up to 8.0 help any with kok development?

So the only way to find out if the fry have water or hard Kok is to growout and cull? I have been looking online at these flowerhorn breeders overseas and they are always divided off. I know that will cause the fish to have more confidence ect... therefore their hump gets larger at a younger age right? I wonder if they divide them off as young as 1/2"? I am going to pull a few fry at that size to see if they develop any different than the ones grown up together.

well even if the parents have hard KOK some of they frys can develop water KOK....not every fry have the same quality.
