Water Problems

Finally everyone is back in there home.

Thanks for everyones input.

Water is close to perfect, thank goodness. My pleco's eye are still cloudy does anyone know if that will go away? He can see, I was worried he might go blind. The cloudiness seems to be somewhat diluted to what is was a couple of days ago.
 
I am going thru a similar situation right now, I had a 25 gallon tank and moved all the inhabitants into a 75 gallon tank I put the old filter and a new Hob on the new tank.
I thought every thing was going well I had used new substrate in the tank and had 3 times the tank volume per hour circulating. My water was crystal clear and I had only a couple of little fish in the tank, after a couple of weeks I decided the tank was ready for more inhabitants and put in 4 more fish, a week later I added 15 small schooling fish, with in a few days my water turned milky cloudy and my amonia has spiked frequent water changes are doing nothing. After researching I am convinced I have way over loaded my bio too quick and am experincing another cycle, I have moved some of the fish back to the 25 gallon and am reducing the feeding .

It seems this Dr. Tims bacteria might just be something, you might want to try that and start a new thread on it...;)
 
I'm going to get another bottle this weekend. I bought the one that you need to keep refridgerated because it contains more live bb. The last time I used it I think it was already too late for anything to help.

Substrate change I think was the cause, I know most people like to keep they're gravel super clean (and not to say that I don't syphon, I do) but the rocks that I switched with the sand have been used for years and the "sludge" (that I like to call silt cause I think it sounds better:D) that was at the bottom was removed as well, and I think that was the cause.

The whole thing was very frustrating. I manually moved 1000's of lb of water and rinsed out 150lb of sand (just in case) in the matter of a couple of days. My back hurts but I glad that my fish are ok, and back to being themselves.
