My 180 gallon is 4 years established but, after I cleaned the sand and tank the water is very cloudy and it’s not from debris. I’m almost certain it’s a bacteria bloom. How do I get rid of this and make my water clear.

60% water change, cleaned filters, took waste out of sand. What do you mean by cleaning the tank and water?
60% water change, cleaned filters, took waste out of sand.
The bio media is fine. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of bacteria/waste in the sand and when I moved the sand around it was released. I did a 25% water change yesterday, cleaned mechanical filtration, and picked up a UV sterilizer. The water is clearing up drastically and tests showing its perfect. So by cleaning, do you mean you vacuumed the detritus from off the sand, and rinsed the mechanical media in the filter?
Or....did you do it more drastically? And then...
Did you add a bunch of new fish overwhelming your too heavily cleaned filter system
What is your normal water change, filter cleaning schedule?
Sounds to me like you over cleaned, and wiped out many of the beneficial bacteria in your filter, and created a mini-cycle.
and added a bunch of new fish, and the filtration was not able to handle all the new fish, creating a bacterial bloom trying to keep up.
By the way ,turn off your U-V if you half to add benifical bacteriaAs long as the water doesn’t smell your ok, but be very stingy on feeding for the next few days. I would feed them sparingly every other day until the bloom goes away. I would add some beneficial bacteria for a few days as well .if it smells then you got troubles ,that’s ammonia, then you need to do slight water changes and test your water.and stay on top of the situation until your water test is okay.
Water actually smells great and clean. Tests are 100% fine. Water is clear. As long as the water doesn’t smell your ok, but be very stingy on feeding for the next few days. Then your good to go. That’s one less thing to worry about.glad to hear it for you.
My Bio Colonies are 100% fine and thriving.
