I just did a waterchange of 40% before doing the test...

Any idea apart from food what can cause the tank to smell

stop using sticks....do 2 wc for a week....and see smell gone.

Yeah lol....but sticks have good nutrients...I will start doing 40% to 45% WC twice a week and see how it goes

I need to get the 3/4 strainer asap...

What temp do you keep your tank at?
Do you just use prime when you do WC?

I use aquaplus, but only if I notice fish doing some head shaking or show distress.....while filling tank, I spray the water in, aerating it will dissipate the chlorine, around here they don't use chloramines.

Despite your years of personal experience proving it wrong... you can't do that because I read so on the internet!

Please note the sarcasrm... as yet again someone's personal experience exposes the common internet exaggerations...

Though chlorine can/does/will kill bacteria... the concentrations used in typical drinking water, cut in half when doing a 50% water change... just aren't nearly as bad for our fish or our bacteria as reading hte internet will have you believe...

While I do advocate the use of dechlorinator... the "fatal importance" is highly overhyped by the manufacturers who are millionaires because we use so much of it...
