water snakes???

Minnows andpinkies would be perfect for a young one. It may also take large insects at that age. As an adult I wouldn't house it anything smaller than a 55 gallon and the bigger the better. They are active snakes.

Ok, so how does this sound?
I have a 55 gallon. I get tile, that say... covers half of the tank. On that tile I have a hiding box, etc. Supporting the tile is pvc pipe, enough to get the aforementioned 1 inch above the water. Lets say from the tile to the other half of the tank is a branch, with a basking light. Does that sound good?
Second, would putting gravel and plants in the water work, or would it be too much of a hassle. I hear their messy eaters in the water. And also, would getting a filter help?
 
i would say unless its really really big i wouldnt. I know where to find a few of these little guys(also found one that apprently had an odd color) and love finding them. I also know of a large deep pool that has no way out for fish that get trapped in there. Went there earlier this spring looking for the brook trout that are always in there. none. wondering why i started looking around. thats when it surface. massive, and i mean massive, northern water snake. some of those trout were 16" plus

Lol, I was wondering if when it got larger things like guppies or platies might work because there too small for the snake to care, but thats probably a bad idea.

Sounds good to me. I would definately find a way to filter the water.
 
My first snake was a water snake. Just keep a large water bowl for them to go in. As lon gas the water is clean and fresh, it will not get blisters, same goes for any snake, keep it clean no problems.

They eat fish and frogs in the wild. Not sure how rodents will affect there internals.
