I am pretty sure the softener that uses salt isnt good for fish

i have one in my basement, not hooked up. it is the salt version.
i have talked to multiple water companies as well as places like the water depot and others that sell purification and softening devices. the answer i have gotten is that it is ok for aquariums, the salt that makes it into the waterlines is so miniscule that it isn't noticeable nor threatening. according to them the salt would be gone from the water used within 45 min. basically it would be less overall salt content by far than what we have dosed our tanks with to fight off infections and other health issues with our rays.
it isn't tasted in the water from the tap from what i'm aware.

i would like to hear from others who do have personal experience with the salted water softeners though, just for the fact that they have done it. did it work? did it cause problems for the fish?

on and off for over 15 yrs. well water around here equals softener system unless you invest in a ro unit. my retics seem to do fine in it but ive only had them a few monthes. my gar where raised on softened well with no noticable adverse reactions.

I use an iron filter+twin stage salt water softener+ a hurricane filter. I have really ****ty well water, been breeding and keeping rays for years.I had a water scientist friend of mine diagnose and build me a system to handle the load.all systems are Way overkill and when designing the system he asked me how much water I use a week...I laughed....i lost count lol! Needles to say here are some pics of my setup, the right one is the iron filter off the well which then goes into the twin system water softener, the idea is that while one is "recharging" the other is fully operational... Fully timed heads.. Iron filter goes off every night for backwash. The softener backwashes on a gallon countdown when it zeroes out it goes off.., from there is goes into a hurricane filter... Long story short it's a small version of what cruise ships use to purify there salt water...the micron is like .000001 it pulls everything "else" that the softener did not catch... Then it feeds the house!!!

I have heard that the salt in the water softeners can cause kidney damage in humans so I use a no salt water softener...probably better for the fish too.
