water softner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just got off the phone with Pelican...... Thier fancy new salt free softeners do NOT change PH or TDS in any way. Not sure what the hell "softening" water means, but apparently it means NOTHING to us in terms of providing more favorable water for our Amazonian friends.

Can anmyone explain what the heck these $1K+ softeners actually do? Sounded like the Pelican guy was just regurgitating the same information as if he was just reading it off from a source in front of him.

my softener has alot to do with overall hardness of the water....i dont think mine changes ph. i can take a reading for you if youd like before and after and let you know. you can also contact my friend frank. he ran the "clean water act" in the midwest for 10 years... he knows his **** when it comes to water. he can either point you in the right direction, or help you over the phone.

I read one member here said they had hard water, installed this water softening system, and now must use Argonite to keep the PH from crashing.

Sounded to me like it would alter water parameters IF this was really the case......

Sure, IF anyone could give me answers, I'd definetly listen. My water is around 8.4 PH. I'd like to have low to mid sevens like most of the people here in the states that breed rays like mad have. But I'd like to achieve this without removing everything from the water, then adding it back in. I'd like to take a step forward, NOT 2 steps forward then one back.

A water softener removes the calcium and mag from the water by trickleing the water over beads that are recharged overnight by the salt .... It doesn't affect the ph on my water it does lower the Tds a little it's not really beneficial for fish IMO more for your pipes and laundry ,skin etc... I do have a carbon filter for the whole house also that removes chlorine and organics that I do think is beneficial and actually save me money better then buying prime !!! And my shower water tastes like sweet nectar lol ...
