Water stinks from Hikari Food Sticks...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feed mine those. They are always something left they float around for an hour then dissolve but they never stink up the tank. Weird:hitting:

The timing on this one is interesting... Since I just bought some of this to try out.

I have been feeding it for about two weeks now and all the fish love it. The Oscars chow it down like it was going out of style. The smaller of the two fish does grind it up and causes a mess, while the larger one makes no mess. I too noticed that the water does smell now. I do multiple water changes per week which include gravel vac. My tank is 210g with two FX5's and I am well stocked but not overstocked.

I am still deciding if I want to continue use of this product. I had been using Omega One pellets and had no issues, just wanted to change things up and try something different.

My tank smells after feeding the Hikari Sinking Cichlid Gold, never had a problem with any of their other foods that I use (Cichid Bio-pellets and Sinking Carnivore.) After I go through the two pound bag I have in my freezer I'm not going to use it anymore.

Ugh I use the hikari massivore pellets and even though my catfish eats them all they make the water smell terrible. He doesn't eat anything else though!

Same thing happened to me when I picked up some massivore a couple of weeks ago. The rest of my family is not happy with the stink. Glad I didn't get a 2lb bag!

What are your parameters for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? These foods dont make the water smell if your water quality is good, you dont over feed, and as long as there isnt a rotting pellet or stick crushed between the lid and tank trim ...
