Water temp vs. growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cool cool. I did lower water temp a few degrees and I have been doing regular water changes. Waste is not a big issuse with my fish and my water is very clean. All water variables are correct for the species. Diet is good and varied. Plus with the addition of my blood parrot my pbass has something to keep him occupied. All in all...thank you everyone for your comments.

I always thought the plus for keeping the temps in the upper range limit equals faster growth, higher metabolism/ waste output, an possible a shorter life span. Can anyone confirm this? Obviously discus doesn't apply with this theory.

From the perspective of an experienced hobbyist... I can confirm this to be true... but I'm no Doctor or Scientist so I can't offer fancy details to help connvince anyone...

I would also suspect this theory to apply to discus... As the theory is, if I keep my fish at a slightly higher temperature than their "ideal", this will increase their metabolism. If that fish's ideal is 78... then 80~81 will increase the metabolism... since Discus have an ideal of around 83... then I would suggest 85~86 would increase their metabolism... although this may have other negative impacts which discourage us from applying this theory.

So the theory will still work (with Discus)... although the end result may not be what we are looking for.
