Howdy,

I was wondering how many of you actually run water tests like nitrite, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, pH. I have to admit that I rarely test my tanks' water chemistry once they are established and running. Maybe once every couple of months ... I guess I have enough chemistry at work (research), I just want to relax bit when I'm home :D

How about you guys?

I run tests regulary, once every two weeks. A bit too often maybe, but I like to have full control. Btw, next test is tommorow;)

whenever i feel like. or if i think there is something wrong w/the water. As long as you stay on top of water changes your water should stay good.

i clicked on the cycling but i hardly ever check after 6 months maybe gh and nitrates on ocassion but while a tanks setting up or i'm adding a sensitive fish look out every 2 days i check

Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH during water changes, or if something starts going wrong, or if setting up to breed finicky fish.

i do it every now and then or if i think there may be something going on like yesterday and today after a water change.
i need to change my filter media and buy another filter my water is just not perfect at the moment

I should have added my tanks are mainly planted so i dont need to worry once theyre going

I just do it every now and then, once a month or two. That being said I am all over testing the tank if anything out of the ordinary happens. i.e. one fish not eating, many fish not eating, high algae growth, different smell, more aggressive/less aggressive behavior, spots, bruises, fins being mussed up, laziness..... Anything that strikes me as different, and most of the time it is completely unnecessary.
