Hi guys I'm new I have a 100liter community tank at the min want to advance on to bigger and better as I have the bug, but before I do want to make sure I do my homework.
my question is what are the best kits people would advise for water tests I really don't like the paper stick tests find them hard to read. I don't mind paying for the better test so people's advise would be great.
thanks in advance.:grinno:

Welcome to MFK.

The kit is very good and accurate. Your local fish store will have it too, before buying one just check the date on the package to be sure it's not expired.

Hi and thanks how many tests would you typically get from this kit?

Here's the "Master Test Kit" that I use:

I don't know if it's the best kit available...but it's not bad. The kit does 5 different tests:

- Ammonia
- Nitrite
- Nitrate
- pH
- High range pH

...and it says that you get over 800 tests in the kit. But you can't divide 800 by 5 to determine the number of tests per test...since each test uses a different number of drops of the solutions...and some tests use one solution, some tests use two solutions. But I would guestimate that you get at least 75-100 tests/test.

HTH :)

+1 on API.

Moved to setup/filtration

I don't like API tests, too confusing and limited to no information IMO. Ex: GH test, no info on what the results mean, no info on how to read the results, and a vague chart on groups of fish. I read over the directions about 5 times, GF read em prolly more then I did and neither of us could figure it out. Trashed it and went back to my hydor (I thinks the brand) master test kit.

Do you have a link and a price for the test kit you like (I'm always looking for something better)!:)

The API Test kit costs about $34.99. If the test kit you like costs a lot more...then cost could be a big factor. Better test kit = more money.

Think I paid 100$ for it. I will look at the manufacture of it tomorrow and let you know.

It's not for everyone, and has junk in it ive never even used. iirc I got it before the above API master kits where out (at least my lfs didn't stock em)
