it is kind of hard to explain the way i am going to do it but i am planning on using 6 55 gallon rubber made garbage cans as my filters.

Up flow or down flow?

http://www.ericnewman.com/biofiltr.htm ?

http://www.vcnet.com/koi_net/ponds.html#inpond ?

There was a multi-barrel filter system (joe's ponds I think) but the server is down. http://www.josephandgabby.com/pond/diyfilters.htm

Swimming with the fishes huh...

I like this one but i would add an over flow back into the pond over the fine filter wool then if it gets blocked no flooding i used one like this on my 180 for years water was pumped up and just ran through it i used a large storage box to make it also the drop back into the tank/pond keeps the water moving

looked a bit like this

i was planning on doing exactly that with the can level with the top of the pond and let the pump pump it in and gravity take it back do you think 6 of them would be enough filtration?

i ran one of theses on a 180 and the water was spot on all depends on how big you make them do 2 large ones then if one failes you still have a filter running i have one on my pond in my garden and thats 12x7x4

I find you cannot over filter but you can over do the flow. If the fish are having a hard time swimming or just staying ion one place then you have too much flow. Also with a pond that size you need to watch for dead spots. If one of your fish lives in one you will be in trouble since there will a large waste build up in one spot.

Maybe use two filters one in either end with spry bars.
