water, water, everywhere...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Glad you didnt loose any fish.

I wish some other people could see this, including the people at the local hospital who are keeping a pacu in what seems to around 125-150 gal. Nobody seems to see anything wrong with it except me. It's the big fish in that big tank up there.

I wished someone could go rescue that pacu, but who would go through the effort and have the tank space/small pond that a pacu needs. Apparently that answer has been nobody.
Glad these two beautiful pacus and probably your equipment has been saved from disaster.

I am wondering what is to stop the Pacu smashing the tank they are in now? It doesnt have a lid and with the hang on filters & flow at each end, they might encourage Pacu to think there is "more river" upstream if they get claustrophobic or startled.

Might be an idea to black out each end and the back with plastic in interim? Good luck with the upgrade. Definitely thicker glass or double glaze? (but dont recommend laminate) or perhaps acrylic to replace.

The 180 is on hold for now; the 700 is #1 on my priority list (check the diy forum). The next upgrade will be a small pool like the ones in Target; I would'nt get one smaller than 1000 gallons. The hard part would be moving those boys; I was soaked before it was all done...:nilly:

Just so your aware, my Pacu chew through my pool liners. Since my pools are about 10,000L there has always been plenty of warning (mess) and enough time to set up another pool but they have done this three times now. They will eat glass heaters and chew power cords too. Just take some precautions. I keep the holed liners inside the new liners and put all cords inside PVC pipe.

Just out of curiosity fishdance. Where abouts did you buy your pacus? I've only ever seen them at Under Water World (Public Aquarium)(Queensland).
