I have the same type of setup for my "fishroom". (2-55 and a 75) Except that I have 1/2" plumbed out of each tank connected to a valve. Then after the valve the line increases to 1&1/2" leading into a floor drain. The draining part of the water changes takes 3min. for 20%. That's for all 3 tanks.

Yes never dump old fresh water from the tanks.. Sell it or give it away to plant people. It like miracle grow x 10 for plants.
