Hey i was just wondering how everyone does waterchanges. It seems like it takes forever for me to do water changes...i use the water hose to syphon the water out of the tank so all the water goes into the grass pretty fast but putting the water back in seems to take forever:nilly: ....i use the water from the bathtub to put back in the tank since it is warmer and i try to put the same temperature of water back in the tank.....i guess my question is how do you guys fill the tank up faster on a big tank...because putting 80 gallons back in a tank 5 gallons at a time takes a while lol...when i was a noob in the hobby, i just used to syphon the water with the water hose then put water back in with the water hose and the fish would all sit on the bottom for a few hours til the temp stabalized....now when i do water changes, since the water is close to the temp in the tank they seem to like water changes...this may be a stupid question but i was just curious....:)

i have a python were you hook it up to the sink and the faucet powers the suction so it goes a little faster. and it fill pretty quick too, 7-10 gal / min. or so.

Been there.... Pythons work well, BUT for some reason, they don't last much longer than a few months (the attachment piece loses pressure, suction, etc.) so I keep throwing the whole thing away. I do the bucket thing myself. Sometimes it's better to just "do it"
BUT it does definitely help if you have multiple buckets. Fill them all up at the same time, one by one, and then carry them all, and repeat as needed :)
Having a huge collection of lungfish is trying, especially as most are in growout tanks and do *NOT* use any filtration, so I change the water approximately every other day manually.

The bucket method actually doesn't take that long.

So, to answer your question, I change my unfiltered water every other day, and my filtered tanks once a week.

wow thanks guys...yea the bucket thing doesnt take TOO long but its kinda tiring when you gotta walk back and forth inside the house from the faucet to the tank and back a bunch of times....especially when you gotta pick up the bucket and hold it over the tank so the water goes in smoothly and doesnt plop and get water all over the place.....

Yeah - but sometimes it's just better to do the simplest thing.

yea i really dont mind doing it that much just sometimes i wanna finish right away especially when i have other things to do...

I hear you bud - maybe cut down on the number of fish and food, and increase filtration, and it'll get easier.

Theyre Really that worth it?? why are they so much better then my hose??? It fits on my faucet and siphons great...

I don't like pythons b/c of the massive vol. of water that goes into waste.

As for the quicker water fill, there really isn't anything that you can do besides the bucket idea. However, you could drastically improve the time on draining by using a submersible water pump. That's what I do with my 300g tank.
