yes they're really worth it. But since you already have a hose just get the right parts and you can make your own python-style set-up.

rather than lugging that bucket back and forth from the tub you might just try getting a powerfull submersable pump(like a mag12) and simply pumping the water into your tank, a pvc ball valve would make it easy to insure you don't overflow the tank. the lfs owner does this at his store and it works pretty well.

i just run a hose out my back door, and run water down a hose into my tank from a faucet at my desired temperature.

i use buckets to change the water in my tanks, i fill em up and the missus goes and empty's em. its good to be the one holding the whip now and again :D

I have added a remote control switch to the pump so I can start and stop it while I am standing next to the tank.

Ya .. I am still workin on getting my rena 850 hooked up to my python :) My homemade one :) The hose aquataholic is nice but the PVC tubing with the white threads in it :D Now that is a PYTHON :)

I don't like pythons b/c of the massive vol. of water that goes into waste.

As for the quicker water fill, there really isn't anything that you can do besides the bucket idea. However, you could drastically improve the time on draining by using a submersible water pump. That's what I do with my 300g tank.

This depends on if you are wasting the water or watering your flowers.. Of which I do both depending on time temp and mood :)
