How does this hose that Petsmart is selling compare to an actuall Python? The only Python i can find online is $75+S&H for a 50ft hose, while Petsmart has a sale where i can buy this 50ft hose for $50-Petsperks...

They look virtually the same..

Any Input?

the thing is I can make these myself, look like the materials will be no more than $30!

Pretty much the same thing... they are pretty much refered to as "Pythons" because python was the first one available in the market. Pretty sure DIY's where makeing home-made versions. But Python was the first marketed to the masses. Alot of different ones out there. i have a python... and it was a well built peice. but any brand will do, Just make sure it's fixtures aren't cheap or flimsy.

yeah you can make these yourself... Go to foster and smith or thatpetplace and you can buy all the fittings and pieces for less than 30$. Then just get the tubing from homedepot and you've just saved a bunch of money and got the python grade hose...

Can one cut the hose down to whatever length they need and re-attach the fittings to the shorter hose? All the python-type devices I see in LFSs and other pet places have 25-foot or 50-foot hoses, and I don't need a hose nearly that long. My large and deep 65-gallon will be set up within 12 feet of a sink, with a floor drain less than three feet away from the tank. I don't need a 25 or 50-foot hose. All that extra hose would just get in my way and I would probably trip over it.

Do they sell any with shorter hoses? Why are our options so limited as to hose length?

It's actually much better than the Python brand. The faucet pump is much more durable. All you really need is the faucet pump. You can buy this at any Petsmart for about $10, then just attach a garden hose to it.

Yep, cut the hose and reattach the fittings. In your case I'de prolly just buy the fittings and use a regular syphon hose thats the same diameter.

You can cut, but I wouldn't. It makes absolutely no sense for them to sell a 10ft kit, as chances are it will be too short for 99% of their customers. Leave it long, you never know when you'll need it. Cutting it is a very bad idea.

I have the one you have pictured. I went to home depot and bought a metal adaptor that goes from the sink attachment to the faucet and just leave it attached. In attempting to originally attach it to the tank the plastic piece stripped out like madness. I spent $2 on the sink adaptor and now it goes on and off like butter.

So does it work the same as the Python? Just screw the fauce pump on and turn the water on and itl drain the tank? Or is there some extra step involved?
