I've got some Vision 211 cages with a couple leo's in them that appear to stick to their humid hides all day and all night. I'm thinking it's just too dry out here (humidity is almost 0% in California) and would like to get some waterfalls to put in there in hopes of boosting humidity and encouraging them to drink.

Dimensions of the cage are 24" W x 22" D x 14" H

Was wondering if any of you have some recommendations on working waterfalls, I was looking at the small exo terra smalls but really have no experience in using this.

Normally when I set up running water it's in a humid/moist vivarium where I can just use the land and a pump to make one, that isn't the case with leo's, though.

Thanks.

They don't need waterfalls. What are the temps in the tanks?

I agree they dont need the waterfalls, I would really think you would need a more accurate number on the inside of the cage, as to what the humidity may be. You can purchase a humidity gauge @ home depot for 7 bucks, get that setup and then you might only need to spray the cage once or twice a week to attain the right range of humidity for your gecko.

Yes I think you just need to spray your tank more often. And lets face it, leopard geckos are nocturnal by nature so not seeing them active during the day is no big deal. I'm sure they come out at night to feed and explore when your not looking.

Humidity is 6% Temp. on the hot side is 88 degree's, 74 on the cool side.

Like I said, they never leave their humid hides. They'll come out for maybe an hour to eat and then right back in. It's not normal behavior.

So you watch your leopard geckos for 24 hours a day? Good grief. I still think a waterfall is unnecessary. If you have a heat lamp you could move the water dish under it so it will evaporate and bring up the humidity. 6%? Thats nuts. The average humidity in most house is 40-60%. You might want to consider getting a humidifier.

Is this based on the inside of your home or the inside of the cage? Just having a regular water dish alone will have your humidity higher than that as the water evaporates from it. What humidity gauging tool are you using? Hopefully its not one of those stick ons from zoo med or T rex as those are completely unreliable.

Using a digital hygrometer designed to calculate weather trends over a timespan, it's a wireless probe that sends out to a fairly complicated receiver and I don't leave it in day in and day out (it's for monitoring weather trends outside to make sure some of our garden doesn't get killed).

There's a water dish in there, these are Vision 211 cages so there isn't any easy way of putting a heat lamp over a water dish for more evaporation.

The humidity in my actual house is 0%-1% consistently, I live in the desert.

I was originally thinking about just putting a fogger in to get it up but I really dislike them as they can hurt the lizards and are generally just a pain to take care of.

I could try spraying as well, which I haven't. I was just thinking about the waterfalls because A. The Vision 211's are display cages and B. It would give me a running water source and be a more low maintenance way of getting the humidity up.

I haven't ever watched my leo's for 24 hours straight, but I'm a disabled Vet. so I spend the majority of my time couped up in the house. There have been days where I've checked in on them every 30 minutes over a 24 hour period (I don't sleep much somtimes).

Money's not all that big of an issue with me. If you think the waterfalls are a bad idea for reasons outside of being expensive let me know, like I said I'm trying to find a low maintenance solution.
