Well, I remembered this thread and figured I'd post what I found out.
I went to the hardware store and opened a few boxes to figure out what the rating of a standard flourescent light was. Then I went back to the numbers.
I dropped by to have lunch with the old man and just so happened, spoke with an electrician and went over a few things. That little electrician reference book is a lifesaver. Gave me some good insight. Although I was dead-on in my figures.
So........
Going to go with six lights in the main room & one or two in the fish room. These are the 4x4 double ballast lights that you can buy at any hardware store. the lights in the main room will be wired with 12/3 so that I can only turn on one ballast if I don't want full light. I will also be putting in a few can lights here and there to give a small amount of illumination so you don't trip as you are watching a movie or whatever. Then there will be two more small CFs, one in the hallway and one in the bathroom.
Seems like only two things have changed since I did my stent in electrical work. The labeling of the wire and the prices.
