  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
use egg crate, it works for me, i just cut out a space big enough to fit the filter and so far my sen hasn't escaped

some good ideas...i also in a pinch have put random things on the tank to block the openings...more so with my aro till i was done constructing the plexi glass...

I have found in the past that using window screen repair kits and silicone to hold them in place works well. it doesn't restrict airflow into and out of the tank and its easy to cut to size

+1 i use the same thing.

Same here. I use trimmed pieces of egg crate around filter tubes--glass top covers the rest.

Duct tape does not last, it needs to be replaced after about one and a half to two years the first time, and at least yearly after that unless you get all the residue off. Not easy without solvents, which are of course, deadly to fish. And that's the good duct tape, not the generic stuff.
Silicone is what I have found to last longest, although I've never tried DAP. I imagine it would work just as well, maybe even better if there's no mildewcide in it. With silicone, do not use any with mildewcide in it. If it says "mildew resistant" don't use it. 100% pure silicone, or better yet, "aquarium safe" is the stuff you want to use.

i had dap laying around so i used it...it works well, i even used it to make a seal on a homemade waterfall style filter...used a plastic jug filled with bio-balls put the inlet hose on the top outlet on the bottom, gravity returned it to the tank...only problem with the dap and silicone is to clean it off when you clean the tank...

I like the screen idea.

My big tank is acrylic drilled with eurobracing so the lower water level and extended rim keeps mine in :)

is eurobracing the style tank were it basically has the top covered by an extra panel of acrilic with 2 holes cut into the middle of either side of the "center brace"
