ways to make cats less boring?

I use to put a like 8" dia ball like you can buy at a dollar store on top of the water for my rtc x tsn, and he would push it around. If nothing else it was entertaining. I'm sure he was hoping to get food out of the deal lol. I can't do that anymore because he could engulf the ball now!
I got my rtc at 3 inches, and he would always hide in this little cave i put in for him, only coming out to eat. Even at 1 ft, he would like to hide behind a big rock i had for him. This is just how they are. Once they get bigger though, they will roam around and bully all the other fish only when they are hungry. Catfish are just naturally lazy. They eat and sleep.
My 2" RTC is pretty lazy. However, when I feed him I cut up fish fillets and he eats them right from my finger tips. He's not afraid of my hand at all. I would be patient he'll come around.
