Ways to protect my ray from burning itself on the heater!?!?!??

to even buy a ray without a heater guard is crazy

and heater guards are sooooooo cheap to buy why bother making some crap home made thing

I dont think this is crap at all. Looks natural and the rays cant get to it nomatter how hard they try. Put it into the wall with another root laying to it.

I am sure those nails will rust which is a heavy metal I'm the tank which rays sense. I wonder is the heaters will heat soak in to the wood? Nice solution though if it works.

I agree with t1, just buy a guard but more than that, get a sump and 90 gals is a short term tank, 6 months max therefore design the next tank with a sump or inline heaters. Rays are a big money commitment.

The powerhead above them wich circulates water is a 2200l\h, so the doesnt stay long down there. As for the nails it is rustfree. Even if they rusted i belive the amount in a 550gallon pond wouldnt wip it over exactley. Works like a charm here (had to do it that was since i dont have a sump, and pond liner inside the tank, that nothing will stick to. took a stoneplate to set it on so it cant reach the pond liner and burn hole if they sink down)

I would definitely recommend the Fluval E Series. I have been using them in my fw stingray tank with no issues. Besides....they look kinda cool with the glowing green screen in the background

i just did a DIY inline heater and it only cost about $20 (without the heater) and was really easy to make. I can put what ever wattage i want in it as long as the heater is around 1 inch in diameter
