Ways to Reduce Aggression in a ]v[onster Comm

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you need to upgrade or get rid of some fish, your overstocked.

I'm glad to see this thread's still alive ... I thought it was a goner! :D

So far ... the new ideas for today are not raising the temp and hitting the fish one the head.

I also generally don't run my tank temp too high. Mainly for power and evaporation considerations, but I sometimes up it when adding salt/meds.

Not too sure about hitting the poor little buggers though ... not sure if they would understand.. :grinno:

Madneon ... thanks for the advice, now you may make your way back to the neon tetra forum! :nilly:

Jokes bro... :D

I recently went from an almost bare tank and redecorated completely thinking that it would solve the agression problem between my Oscar and Pacu. The agression has actually gotten worse.

I tried adding a small Red Devil as a distraction, but that hasn't done anything.

The Pacu is going this weekend......

I think the more fish the more the aggression is spread out amongst inhabitants.

Considering the fish you have stocked together i reckon you are doing very well! Definitely keep off the feeders as i have trouble introducing new fish unless they are bigger then one of my dominant pbass.

I am going to try some plastic plants but so far my tank is doing great with little aggression - i have 4 x cichla monos, 4 x silver dollars, jardini, 2 x oscars, sailfin and few others.

Keeping the fish well fed also reduces aggression in my experience.

Great thread lets keep it going!

They are very placid. When i first got into the hobby i always wanted oscars, even though i dont fancy them as much now i cant let go of these guys and i think i have a pair with a bit of spawning activity happening.

I have big plans just have to wait for the fish to come around as here in Aus its difficult to attain some fish and even harder to get them at a suitable size. I have a couple of Dats that i am growing but it will be a long time before they go in this tank - if they go in at all!

My Jardini is pretty calm at about 15 - 20cms. How was yours at this stage and how is it now compared to what it was at a younger age?

id get rid of like half those fish

one way would be to send one of your asian aros to me to look after.

LOL ...not gonna happen, butif you wouldn't mind a greenie, you could probably pick up quite a big one for cheap. I bought mine at 50cm for NT1500$ :D

How's your collection coming along?
