we got a Camel spider!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Camel spiders (more accurately windscorpions) are fairly common. Here we have Eremobates docolora in Southeastern Alberta.

They can be found throughout much of southern and western U.S., Mexico and southwestern Canada. I always wanted to see one in Alberta, but I have not gotten any luck finding them. Although there are reports around the Medicine Hat area... along with Northern Scorpion, Prairie Rattlesnake and Western Hognose Snake...

Might be worth checking out... anyone got a UV light?

They don't do that well in captivity...

They need the night temperature drop, cool hiding spots and depending on the species -- hibernation as well, in order to live long...

I find them all the time at work but smaller ones, about 1-2inches. Those things are fearless. As soon as they see you they turned towards you and are ready to throw down. Amazing jaws on those little guys.
