i think i will get some egg crates to separate them in that tank. so i should leave the parents in there till when?

Yep, leave the parents in there at least until they hatch. The parents will fan the eggs and keep them clean. There is a device called an egg tumbler that will simulate the parental duties but nothing beats the real thing.

btw, I don't have any experience with red snook but an educated guess from other similar cichlids, the eggs should hatch within four days of being laid.

i separated the tank.. but theres bout an inch of opening above the divider.. and one of the snooks keeps wanting to go on the other side with the other fish. on that side the pbass chases the livin sh*t out of him and bites too.. but the snook seems to like it. its weird.. no matter how many times i get him on the opposite side the snook keeps wantin to get on the other side where its harassed. doesnt seem normal. any input?

I would pull the divider and watch the show. Why have fish if your not going to observe their habits and activities. You have a great oppertunity to watch your snooks being parents and raising their young and the protection they will provide. Of course you want to watch for the health and safety of your other fish so keep the divider handy.

The worst that could happen is you lose this batch of fry, but they'll have more. Nothing like a breeding pair to screw up perfect community tank harmony.

Good luck and enjoy
