I actually think they get quite ugly as they mature. I think the juvies look pretty nice though.

I can vouch for that :D

Edna's about 7 years old and 9". As ugly as she is she's one of the coolest fish I've ever had. She's very moody and peaceful. She doesn't bother the 1" misc. cichlid grow-outs that share her tank. And while she's very mild-tempered she doesn't take crap from nobody.

Congrats on them hotfishgirls. I'd really like to get another chocolate. Post pix often! They're a bit underrated IMO. Good to see another choc lover. :D

Have one in the mail.

They're one of the most varied looking fish in my opinion. See lots of them with very varied colours from red to green bodies mixed with the chocolate, and while I do agree that males tend to start looking ugly close to full size, if you want to get rid of a fish that size because it's ugly you don't have a heart.

They also definitely aren't 'babies', unless you refer to them as babies as a loose term for pets :p

Great Collection of lovely fish you have there. What is the age and size of your chocolates and texas? here is my guy now at roughly 4 1/2 inches i think. He has quite an attitude towards other fish so hes by himself with small tetras and tiger barbs. I hope its a he.

Here`s a pic of mine. Approx. 4in, I think male. Tankmates are gold sev, geo, bosemani rainbows, balloon mollies and a raphael cat. Everyone gets along fine in my 90g.
