On the bottom lip dominance.
I would fully agree this was the case with what I would categorise this type of fish as “lazy fish”. The type that can’t really be bothered moving much and hence don’t want a proper fight. Seems perfectly reasonable that the one who grabs and keeps hold of the bottom jaw gets to show dominance.
Not so sure on the bite being strong, I would think that’s more of a suction thing rather than a strength bite.
Yes, would agree again with the mating thing that this could well be used in proving worthiness.

And I think if a 2ft jello bite was measured against a stocky 2ft wyckii I know which my monies on and it’s not jello.

Very interesting argument on the laziness. Never occurred to me! Thank you so much, Dave.

Well, yeah, you are a wyckii junky, who'd doubt? :)

Oh, yeah? Well, my fish's father can beat up your fish's father!

So... there! :headbang2

Joking aside...do wyckii have teeth? I've had my hand clamped down upon by a fair number of Channel Cats in the 38-30" range, as well as a decent Flathead and, of course, my grumpy Jelly. All of them have nothing but essentially sandpaper for teeth. A mild pinch, and if the fish thrashes while pinching you get a mild abrasion. They're all grunt and no grind. :)

That's to bad that they can't get along. I hope her appetite recovers but I share your concerns. Where would you house her if you had to relocate for recovery?

I am not thinking of separating yet. The situation is tolerable for now. If I had to, any 240g would do.
