Today I just bought a rainbow Arowana from a flea market aquarium. It is at least 10 inches and looked healthy in the store. However, upon arriving home I noticed that the arowana seemed really stressed and stiff inside the bag. I let it sit in my tank for a while with the bag open and poured a little of my tank water into it. After about 10 minutes I notice that the arowana wasn't swimming anymore but rather resting on the bottom of the plastic bag. So I decided to drop it into the tank but my power head just pushed the arowana away and it keeps on sinking to the water and then swimming sideways/upside-down. Can I save this fish?

I have no clue what a rainbow arowana is but like all arowanas, if its swimming sideways and upside down its usually past the point of saving.

Doesn't sound good. How long was it in the bag? Did you condsider or compare water params before acclimating?

It's good idea to research both the fish and the seller and avoid making impulse buys.

WHAT is a rainbow arowana??!

did acclimate it right?? and is your tank cycled completely?

+ 1. its really important to get these two parameters right when you first introduce your aro.

rainbow aro?
either way,his tank params dont really matter right now if it was dying in the bag.
maybe something got into the bag?
the aro might have been stressed when you were catching it and putting it into the bag?
something dangerous got into the bag?

Very little chances of surviving if it is swimming upside down. Maybe your tank water parameters were not ideal which stressed the fella.

Kindly post pic of your Rainbow Arowana, like others I'm eager to see what this new strain looks like.:D
