Have ever had some weakass oscars? My oscars which should be the tank bosses run from my red devil(yet to turn) and my silver dat. They have to stay in the top left corner of the tank.

Red Devils are extremely aggressive, Oscars are NOT.

I agree with santoury.

I would expect the O's to get dominated when kept with an RD. They're push overs to anything with the balls to attack another fish larger than themselves.

Oscars won't really attack other fish, their size usually affords them protection by instilling fear in other fish, or at least a sense of respect.

RDs are pretty mean...the O's probably hiding from it.

Just like above.... RD's are a lot more aggresssive than Oscars. I had 2 in the 10" range that would run from a 4" Texas and some small convicts. Oscars in my mind would rather eat than do anything else. There are exceptions of course, but in my experience they are usually pretty mellow.

I got 3 oscars in my 125 and the one is very aggressive....the tank is his. He constantly chases everyone off and nobody messes with him. Doesnt take $hit from anyone. It just depends on each individual fish.

I can honestly say that I've never had an oscar rule a tank. My oscars will try to intimidate their tankmates but as soon as the other fish make a move the oscar bolts for the closest hiding spot in the tank.

Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. I have a 5" Marbled Headstander (Abramites hypselonotus) that will square off with my Oscar (just shy of 15") from time to time. As soon as the headstander makes a quick move, the oscar is high tailing it out of there. The Oscar could easily eat him but I think he is too scared to try...big baby.

Oscars are not the "really mean fish" that everyone seems to think they are.

They are usually aggressive (mostly) to other oscars.

Just like BigPleco is experiencing.
Other than that, they are not overly aggressive and will often submit to something as territorial as a Red Devil.
My guess is that if he where to place a crazy RD in with his big Oscar, his big Oscar would try his intimidation technique and fail. :D

I work at a Fish Store and I have to just shake my head every time i overhear people saying.
"i dont want an oscar, those things are way too mean". Just because a fish has a large mouth and eats smaller fish, doesnt make it a mean fish. If they stuck it with a Red Devil, they too would see that Oscars are all Bark, no bite.
