reminds me of the movie "finding nemo" wen the girl shakes the life outta the fish at the dentist's office :D

@topic....relax...i think ur just excited as u are a responsible fish keeper and others dont seem to be....IMO they wont be much affected by ur speech...and after all its a weather loach...what could be the worst condition to keep a weather loach in than ur first idea to feed it to ur snakeheads

I am a responsible fish keeper, but that's not the entire reason this upsets me. I don't see how sending a fish home is supposed to teach anything other than it's ok to defy your parents. How many of the kids in that class had asked for a tank and their parents said no? Now they're forced into it. A lot of people don't have the money just to drop into a fish tank on the spot like that. Even though a ten gallon could suffice, some people arent that well off.

And yes, my quote was from the movie 'finding nemo' :)

that's crazy, and ricidulous. luckily you at least know what to do with it.

i think they are fun fish for kids, as they have such personality, and are fun to watch before and while it rains.

the teacher should have kept them ina tank at daycare, so they could enjoy them there, and not worry if they'll be taken care of at home.

my "@topic.." was for the viking guy who opened the topic;)....he wanted to give a speech on how to take care of loaches.....

Oh, sorry. lol

have you talked to them yet?

Yeah, i talked with them and apparently, i wasn't the only parent to be a little ticked off....
The idea was to teach the kids how to take care of an animal, in this case a fish.
As i said before, the idea is good, but the way they went about it, was not ideal.

I don't know if kid's are the same, but at least my 5 year old son, after the initial excitement has gone, doesn't really care about the care of the fish and of cause i have to take care of it then...i don't mind that at all though, but..

There are many parents that either don't have the time, money or interest in having a fish and then out of the blue they got one!

They way it should have been handled, would be to write a letter, explaining things and then if the parents agreed, give the kids the fish.
If the parents didn't agree. then an option could be to have a lager tank in the day care center in which the kid's could have "their" fish and take care of it.

Some of you may think i am making too much of a fuss over this, after all it is "only" a weather loach, and not one of our precious "monsters", but IMHO
it doesn't matter, it is still a live animal and shouldn't be handed out like candy!

yeeeaahh man...:headbang2
they shouldnt be handed out like candy...they should be fed to snakeheads

:irked:

haha that'd be funny if the other parents just sent their kids back with them, and left the teacher to deal with it

I really dont think any school anywhere should send home live animals home with a kid without notice or permission. Thats rediculous. Send home a plant not a fish and of all fish why a weather loach? atleast it wasnt those .25 goldfish from walmart. Ive heard teachers send those home. With 11 tanks its not a big deal for us personally if my daughtr was given a fish but still wrong to the school to give the parents an added responsibility and it is just that the PARENTS responsibility not the kids, the kid isnt going to rush to the lfs to buy the supplies and even then they now force th parent who may not be able to, to spend money on a proper set up, and u know there will be those certain parents that get a goldfish bowl. or 1g cheapest tank available. wrong...its just wrong.

That's true, why of all things a weather loach?

Some people just don't have the compassion or responsiblity to care for animals like fish. I think this was a poorly executed decision on the teacher's part. Oh and preschool, kids are way too young, may may enjoy fish keeping in the future but they are just way to young now.

I think you have a right to be angry, I would complain to the teacher to stop doing this and start handing out snails and moss that they can spriz with water everyday.
