Ghetto blastin pre filtration project for chloramine removal 💀☠️… starting small since my autodrip lines are already 1/4” and this pretty much “plugged in” pretty easily. Went with an “ispring” brand 3 stage for chloramine removal with is yet to be seen on my tests 😑. If the scale of this fails it becomes a drinking water filter for my wife lol… it came with a little faucet for the sink which i also installed T’d off from my fish lines for her.

Went with a spin down filter for pre, pre filtration 😂. I like the fact its washable/reusable and allows me to run 3 other carts in the unit if needed… which i think i do already after maybe 10 hrs of use. I’ll report back here when i find that “perfect blend” of filter cartridges that actually removes chloramine for me. Hopefully sooner than later. I figured id have to shoot the gauntlet for a while testing brands/carts i can afford to replace. Some are $15 and others are $150 😬

Price break down so far…
- 3 stage unit with sink faucet, 3 filters and some accessories $117
- spin down sediment filter $29.99
- 1/4” hose $4.99
- mini ball valves and elbows - $14
- assorted fittings $20
- $185.98

Not terrible, i had alot of the parts already like the pressure guages. Being a fish hoarder i keep a good supply of used fittings and extras on hand.

The bad news is nothing changed on my water tests from the source or filtered water 😂😂😂. Such is life tho its never cut and dry.

Any advice/tips on what brand filter cartridges to use for chloramine removal is much appreciated 💀🤙

So...the good news is that you were able to Frankenstein this together using a lot of stuff you already had, saving a bunch of money.

And the bad news is that it doesn't actually do anything??

Yeah...I've had lots of projects like that...:(

Usually how it goes i agree… Sadly the amount of water i use a day can toast even a good filter cartridge in as quick as a month. If i can find a decent/affordable filter cartridge to remove even half the amount of chloramine im ok with that. I cant be that blind to believe i haven’t already been pumping chloramine right into all my systems for much longer than i thought. No tanks register the ammonia unless i add too much fresh water. Ive found/tested that in the past. Makes more sense now. all i can do is try to make an improvement. My 4 yr old son is really enjoying the little faucet up stairs with fresher tasting water 😂😂😂 so at the least that was worth the cost for him to drink more. One day at a time.

Lol, you commented that chloramine off-gasses in a day or so. I thought "Really? Well, in that case..." and cobbled together in my head an easy DIY solution for your problem. It kept getting more and more complicated, and I kept refining and improving it...in my head, you understand. Then I began to laboriously type it out, ready to present my masterpiece to the world...

...and then RD. RD. thoroughly harshed my mellow by pointing out that, no, chloramine does not off-gas all on its own. :(

Crap! All that imaginary work went to waste. Oh, well, I just drew myself a nice tall cool glass of untreated well water...and settled back to watch the shenanigans here. :)

Im at a loss for the day… making false claims throwing people off and moving backwards 😂… heres a good laugh for ya. Borrowed a TDS meter from my work buddy. My tap water is 155ppm, Wifes brita in the fridge is 133 and my fancy new filtered water is 188… cant make this stuff up lol. Im sure im doing something wrong. I flushed the filter as the directions stated and this is even after 24hrs running.
