Weekend Feeder Blocks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The outcome from using feeder blocks depends on using the right blocks and the right size for your tank. After doing a good gravel wash, water change, and filter maintenance, the blocks shouldn't harm your system. Use blocks recommended for your size system and avoid all generic blocks, bulk loose blocks (may already contain mold from lfs humidity), and any blocks containing blood meal. There are blocks available that contain plankton, spirulina, and freeze-dried bloodworms. I've never had any problems when using these blocks.

I have used feeder blocks many times....the kind that look like they are in plaster and the new ones from Tetra. I have never had a problem, even after being gone for a week. I have come home to find they are not fully consumed and I just remove the leftovers. I do not worry anymore about most of my tanks over a weekend. Fish can stand a couple of days without food. I have left my Betta without food at all for a week and he is fine when I return. I always feed my fish before I leave, especially my meat eaters....don't want them to get hungry and take a chunk out of someone else.
