Weeksii sensory pits

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Firstly, the palmas palmas did a number on the pectoral and tail. Geezus....

As for the bichir worms. Parasite guard worked for me. Had a few on my faranah dabola and went away in a day or so.

I wouldn't be too alarmed with sensory canals. It seems fine. Believe they're just a lot more noticeable on light colored poly. Observe this on your light and dark colored congi.

Weeksii will likely eat tilapia now if u hand feed it, lol

As for the described gunk on the face holes :-). It's probably due to stress and newly acclimation process. It should look normal in a few days. Forgot to mention. It's happen to me before.

Yea...not saying it is but it was came to my mind. Lol.

Keep qt for a while.

Yup definitly gonna have an extended stay in qt. I dont notice any worms on the actual fish but hes pretty washed out so who knows. I do notice free floating worms and also on the glass impossible to get a clear pic but its what i assumed were ditirus worms.

Man i know it will heal up but im pissed the fish didnt have soo much as a split fin. If i had a snake head tank i would be very tempted to....... its the lfs problem now

Jaws you will have the Weeksii healthy in no time. :)

Thx man. Gonna get new garden hose as im pretty sure i havent ised it on any of the other tanks besides this one just to be safe.

Some pics the sensory pits are uniform meaning they are both spread evenly on both sides of the head. What caused concern was the white stuff in the pits.

I would bet that fish has been kept in very poor conditions. The way the pits are enlarged is similar to HITH. I would agree to dose for parasites and then give him a steady environment of great water conditions

Great project fish,

Info from Beblondie :

LATERAL LINE
The lateral line system consists of bendable nerve endings in a series of mucous-filled canals. Vibrations in the water or differential pressure in different parts of the canal cause the fluid to move and distort the nerve endings.
Because of it's name, we think of the lateral-line system as being oriented laterally on
the fish.Closer inspection shows a concentration of sensory receptors on the head
branching into 4 lines. The occipital,The supraorbital, The suborbital and The
hyomandibular.

The lateral line system enables detection of both vibrations in the water and changes in the pressure field set up as the fish swims. It provides information to the fish about movements of nearby organisms, very-low-frequency sound, differential current velocity, and back pressure built up as the fish approaches an obstacle. The lateral line sense is sufficiently directional to enable blinded fish to find and capture prey.

A swimming fish sets up a pressure wave in the water that is detectable by the lateral line systems of other fishes. It also sets up a bow wave in front of itself, the pressure of which is higher than that of the wave flow along its sides. These near-field differences are registered by its own lateral line system. As the fish approaches an object, such as a rock or the glass wall of an aquarium, the pressure waves around its body are distorted, and these changes are quickly detected by the lateral line system, enabling the fish to swerve or to take other suitable action. Because sound waves are waves of pressure, the lateral line system is also able to detect very low-frequency sounds of 100 Hz or less.

If equilibrium seems fine. It's swimming, alert, and not letharic. I beleive it will be thriving in your care. I've experienced this before from polys that were traded in. Believe continual stress and new environment are the contributor, therefore, diet was affected as well. Think some of us keepers have too, but usually goes unnoticed. Beat down from palmas palmas didn't help either.

Yeah for the most part he seems normal. Thanks van
Besides getting beat on.
