I've never had PVC float. Mine has always sunk. What kind of PVC is it?
True that, my always sinks.

Silicone some rocks to it
I've done this, it just looks like the fish drug them in. People never even know.

Guess I was just lucky enough to buy the elusive floating type, and it wasn't cheap either, I think it cost me a whole five bucks :)

I'ld like a more asthetically pleasing idea all together. My first tire track had no problem hanging out in the tank, but this guy has to have his own hide away and is territorial. He was half hanging out of his vase when he wanted to lay straight, and I know some people would argue with me that fish don't sulk but my fish do :) So I wanted to make him happy. He seems to really like to pvc pipe because he can stretch out in it, and even more important its not very functional for my ctenopoma to get at him the way I have it situated in the tank, which is a life saver for my persistant ctenopoma.

I had him (ctenpoma) recovering from injuries from the tire track in a separate tank, he almost didn't eat for a month, he would spit the food out looking right at me, and was completely inactive. As soon as he got back in the bigger tank what does he do, challange the tire track. He's back to his old self chasing the python when I clean the tank and fighting his own reflection.

silicone will not hold as well over time as other glue. try using some gorilla glue but give it at least 24 hours to cure to the rocks you glue it to. this will hold much better over time. its a pretty cheap glue too

not a fan of gorilla glue, I always get that crap all over myself you can wipe it off and then it looks like I'm shedding a day or two later. It's also very pourous are you sure that its ok to use in water.

It's fine to use in water. If you need to do a lot of gluing you can also use Great Stuff insulation foam (pretty much the same as Gorilla Glue, but comes in a convenient spray can). Epoxy is another good choice; the kind that comes in a double-barreled plunger-style setup that dispenses and combines the two components automatically should work fine.

yeah i say roll it in some silicone and cover it with some aquarium gravel and some bigger rocks. it makes it more "natural" looking and more heavier :D

that works, but really, if you're using pvc, is there any need to aim for natural looking? :)

i use pvc covered in ge silicone 1 and rolled in gravel in a lot of my tanks and have for years, i have some caves i made like this that are years old with no problem, great easy and cheap caves, and they blend in with the substrate. i like the way they look.

that rolling in the gravel idea, gave me a thought. I always wanted to try a center piece of a pseudo sewage line with bubbles coming out of fake release valves. Now I'm thinking another trip to home depot to scavange for something to make it work, give my tank a whole new look.
