Hey guys,

I've finished my DIY sump and stand and i want to get the tank up and running. Just want to ask you guys why i dont see many of you using weirs? I know they take up room but it aint THAT much room... Is there any other reason?

I just find it simple to use a weir in case of a power outtage and looks alot neater then a overflow box.

Here are pics of my sump

The champer or box thingi that is constructed in big tanks for the water to overflow into where it is then drained into the sump from.

Thanks guys, i am really happy with the way it turned out.

I will make a detailed thread when i get it up n running.

So no one here got any comments on having a weir?

For those who dont know what i mean by weir here is a pic

so that is what a weir is. a drilled tank overflow chamber thingy lol

to wier....

i would have the weir (built in overflow box). it all depends on you. if ou want to save space then go for a hand on overflow box. if you're afraid the hang on will top off due to large fish then use a built in. if you don't like to see plenty of hose at the back of the tank then do a weir. their are plenty of considerations. bottom line is if you feel more comfortable having it go for it rather than regretting it. I personally would go for a weir, its safer. :)
