Weird Cycle

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When i started running my *900Ltr setup i added some starter bactiria stuff and checked water ever couple of days for weeks, it was like testing tap water so on advise i doubled the dose and waited some more weeks till it all sorted it self out.
Only then did i add any fish.
What i am saying is that they dont always do what they say on the tin.
just take your time or you will have dead fish all over the place.
ps i did not do any water change till NO3 hit 10mg/l and that took a month after adding a few fish.

None of my fish were acting abnormally. I wasn't using anything to bind up the ammonia, that was a reading of the active ammonia. I've been using API water treatment that only handles chlorine and chloramines. I ran out of AmQuel about a week ago and haven't been out to buy anymore since. I just checked my tank (I've been away for about 2 days) and everything seems to be calming down. Without performing any water changes, the ammonia level has dropped considerably. It's nearly down to 0 on its own. Maybe bringing my canister filter from an old tank over to this one played a role. Either way, things appear to be working well now.

Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions!
