Weird drowth/fungus on ray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
salt bump up temp a little bit. not to much... because she is really skinny.

also u porbly already know but make sure the salt is FULLY dissolved.
and if u can add it to the sump and slowly too, so it gets distributed as evenly as possible.

and also time.. give it some time.

i would just disolve it in water first.... i found that when i put it in my sump it would kill part of my bacteria in the sump and my tank would go into a mini crash

I'll dissolve it in a bucket, then pour it directly into the pump chamber of the sump. That way it gets spread evenly through the tank and will get diluted before it makes it back to the biomedia.

I would deff add salt, up the temp to 82-83...Then only minimal light a day and lots of water changes. My little retic broke the end of her tail off and I just added salt and she was fine. After she gets better you may want to give her a dose of Prazipro, might have internal stuff she needs cleaned out.
Good Luck

yep thats what i ment, in the pump portion of the sump. just pour it directly over the sump. anyways seams like you know what your doing.

best of luck, and keep us updated mate.

also its good that shes eating still!! she needs it ay..

did u receive it that skinny?

Well, I only got to add about a pound of salt with the water change. I had to leave to go do something with my gf.

When I got back, the ray was swimming quite actively through the tank, and as I watched the large protruding portion of the thing on her eye broke off. It looks like it was a fungus or something that grew across her eye, because its still cloudy around the edges.

I'm going to add another pound of salt tonight, and try bumping the temp up to 85-85F. I guess I'll see how she's doing in the morning.

Oh, by the way, she was going crazy after some blackworms while I was refilling the tank, and adding the salt. So at least she seems to have her appetite back...

thats good... did you remove what ever it was from the tank? can you get some better pix

She was not that skinny when I got her. She was by no means well fed, but not that skinny. When I transferred her from my planted, sand substrate tank to the one she's in now (only driftwood, no substrate or plants) I think it really freaked her out. She didn't eat for about 5 days that I could see, and she got skinny like you see her now. However, she started eating again yesterday, and she seems to have a good appetite right now, so as long as she kicks this fungus she should be ok (I think).

I did remove whatever it was. I wiped it on a napkin to get a better look, but it was almost like a gel kind of substance, and just kind of wiped into a smear on the paper towel. I'll try to get some better shots of her eye. It's hard when she won't sit still though.

might try mixing trout worms/red wigglers in to help speed the bulking up process. that thing makes etheopians look fat
