Ever since I got it, I noticed my parrot has oval pupils like a horse. He acts completely normal (for a parrot). I’m assuming it’s all part of the deformed parrot cichlid package. Does anyone else have parrots with weird eyes, or is mine extra strange?
I’ll try to get a photo when he is a bit more cooperative.

I forgot what messageboard I was reading and was reading this thinking, "Dude, your bird is screwed up..."

Parrots have diff shaped pupils. A percentage have the 'sleepy eye' look...one of mine has sleepy eyes but they've gotten a bit rounder now. One of my female parrots has enormous eyes (at least twice the size of the others) and she tilts them in different directions like spotlights!

I have Blood Red Parrots and this is completely normal. This a defect as well as their mouths of being a hybrid between their breeds. Also expect a lot of eye movement as well because they're curious and won't shy away from scoping places out.

For some reason 'defect' keeps coming up in these conversations...kind of overblown. The fish are functional. Especially considering all the bizarre experimental hybrids out there a lot of people are so in love with.

Two of my parrots can eat pellets 8+mm in size with no problem. They have very large mouths and siphon them up.

One has a small mouth but will 'graze' food all day or slurp it up as it falls from up top.

One has a medium mouth with a long snout, so she scoops her food.

Yes, there are ugly parrots, but there are beautiful ones, too. Just like non hybrids. Every fish won't win a beauty contest regardless.

When using the word ''defect'' i'm not saying it to mean that their ''damaged goods'' or something. Just that because of the mix of breeds that make them hybrids, my fish especially, They can't fully open their mouths, and they have to wait for the food to decompose a little, and get soft to fully eat a 4mm pellet. A regular fish would not have this problem hence the word ''defect''. Same, with their eyes being a interesting shape. This isn't a fish beauty contest because when making your decision of whether you're going to buy the fish or not you will only look at their personalities, not appearance. Thanks for uncovering this side of the fact when discussing Blood Red Parrots!

I actually think some parrots are quite striking, with finnage or color. Two of my parrots have heavy midas ancestry, the others have devil. Two can open their mouths, one can open hers some, and one has a 'fixed' mouth. If they're fed well their bodies look much more balanced.

The females I have are ultra aggressive and bite everything.

Wow! Good info FINWIN. Never knew that parrots had those kinds of pupils. Clicked on this thread thinking it was a parrot meaning the bird. My mom's an ornithologist, so naturally, I know a lot about birds lol.
