Ok well since i had my second group of wild caught micros come in and I tried to treat them for tapeworm, something really weird has happened. Basically they didn't do well at all on the medication. They started getting really itchy and started flashing really heavily then my 18" ornate died which was a hard blow. I seriously thought I was going to lose all my micros because they were literally rubbing their skin raw against the bogwood in my tank!

But then a few weeks later I ran out of dechlor when I was doing a waterchange - I do mine religiously so this normally happens, and they are in a big tank. But the day after I had changed the water with no dechlor they were actually BETTER! They stopped flashing, and after day 3 all of the scales/skin that had been scraped off completely grew back. Now I have stopped using dechlor completely and they have regained their apetites and are always eating really well whereas before when I medicated they stopped eating and were really ill.

How on earth has this happened? The only reason I can think of is because they were wild caught and shipped here, they are somehow thriving in pure tapwater with no dechlor? I'm sure if it was tank bred, they wouldn't have made it. But micro SH have been known to go through a lot and come out on the better side. Anyway just thought I'd share with you all what happened.

When I first got my second group in they were 3", now they are a whopping 12" each and growing fast but when they were ill they stopped eating for a month or something so I guess that must have slowed down their growth rate?

interesting neer
hope they grow big with your new method..
very interested
maybe the chlorine killed whatever parasite was bothering them>

Hmm I guess so? But when they came in they looked clean to me and no problems until I treated which makes me think they couldnt handle the meds cos they were wild caught. But they are literally thriving on pure tapwater. But a lot of that water is aged before I put it in the tank so maybe that's helping them also.

whoa thats strange

Yeah that's what I thought, and I gave it a few weeks to see if the chlorine had any bad effects on them before I posted it on here but I have had no casualties, only improvements :D and an increase in apetite!

very weird..
but im glad they are doing so well..
you have magic water :)
maybe the meds were over dosed?
not sure
anything could be the cause but aslong as they are doing well now im happy :D

Yeah I am so relieved they are doing better because I spent bucket loads of money on feeder, food and stuff for them to fatten them up, I really didn't want to lose them! But it was to the point where they were swimming near the surface, not even swimming but hovering there and refusing to take food. Now there's a major difference, completely the opposite! If it is the tap water then I'm not complaining :D
