Weirdest fishy thing possible for a 55 gallon.

I guess you buy your fish big, but i buy mine all young...and it won't grow that big that quick. :)


My black ghost knife went from 2" to 8" in less than six months... IMO the slow growth rate on these guys is from lack of quality food intake (they can get out competed for food easily and a lot of frozen food like bloodworms, what they usually like to eat, just isn't super nutritious)... I got mine on hikari carnivore in a couple weeks after I got him and he just got monster quick. Keeping one in a 55 is just stupid.
If you want a knife in a 55 get an african brown knife, or one of the more unusual SA species that you don't see very often that don't get big.
 
I have an african butterfly with an african knife and a senegal. They all get the WTF from anyone who sees the tank. They also share their home with a dragon goby and a peacock eel, among other "ordinary" fish. At least get the senegal because it will be seen and stay relatively small.
